The Core Analytic Laboratory has recently acquired a BD LSRII cytometer for both technician--assisted and user-independent data acquisition. The LSRII has three lasers (20mW solid-state sapphire 488nm, 40mW solid-state red 640nm, and a 100mW solid-state violet 405nm) and twelve color capability. The LSRII is also equipped with the High Throughput sampler option for automated acquisition of samples from 96-well or 384-well microtiter plates.

Dickinson FACSVantage SE Sorting Flow CytometerThe Core Sorting Laboratory has one FACSVantage SE cell sorter with digital electronics (FACSDiVa option). It is equipped with three lasers; two argon-ion lasers, one tuned to 488 nm and one tuned to 355 nm for ultraviolet excitation; the third laser is a krypton-argon mixed gas spectrum laser, which provides either 647 nm excitation or 568 excitation and other additional lines. The instrument has eight detectors, Turbosort capabilities, and the CloneCyte attachment for single cell cloning. The sorter is equipped with the Becton Dickinson Aerosol containment module for sorting of potentially biohazardous samples.

RoboSep Magnetic Cell Separator The Core Facility has an automated bench-top immunomagnetic cell separator for isolation of sub-populations of cells using EasySep (R) Technology from STEMCELL Technologies. RoboSep performs sample labeling and cell separation on up to 4 samples simultaneously.
All analytic cytometers except the BD LSRII are operated using Power Macintosh G4 computers loaded with BD CellQuest software. The BD LSRII analytic cytometer is operated by a Hewlett Packard PC with FACSDiVa software. The FACSVantage SE cell sorter is connected to Power Macintosh G4 computers and also to an Hewlett Packard PC computer for the utilization of the FACSDiVa option and software. The BD FACSAria cell sorters are operated using a Hewlett Packard PC with FACSDiVa software.
For user-managed data storage Magneto-Optical, USB Flash and CD-R drives are utilized for the analytical cytometers. The BD FACSVantage SE cell sorter utilizes Zip, USB Flash, and CD-R drives. The BD FACSAria is equipped with Zip, USB Flash, CD-R and DVD-R drives for data storage.
Modfit LT (DNA Histogram Analysis), FlowJo and FCSExpress software are also available in the core facility.
